A real life 'want to buy a bridge' story

You know the old saying, if you believe that I've got a bridge I want to sell you?

I remembered the other day when I was a kid we were in a state park and we were swimming in the river as lots of others were. There was this young guy maybe about 19 or 20 yelling at his little brother "it's MY river!!!"
So I asked him if it was and he said "yeah, I bought it."
I went on swimming and then he came up and told me I was going to have to get out of the river, that it was his, and he wanted everyone to clear out.

So I went and told my parents about it, and they explained that this was a state park, that it wasn't privately owned, so go back and swim. After he told me he was going to call the police, I told my parents what he'd said.
My mom laughed and said that my dad was going to go talk to him.

This poor sap had just handed money over to some guys who claimed it was their property and offered to sell it to him.

My parents were holding back their laughter all the way home.
