At what age should I introduce water?

Is there a specific age that water should be introduced to a baby/toddler?

  • I always suggest that solids begin no sooner then 6 mos of age, and a sippy with water when solids are offered.

  • It's not really necessary until baby's closer to a year old - they get all they need from breastmilk or formula. I only used it to introduce a sippy cup - so they got less than an ounce a day starting around 7 months up until they were off of formula.

  • I agree with Anon...I've always heard that you don't need to give them any water until they are a year old...that's what I did with my daughter and everything is fine

  • If it is super hot and you are worried about dehydration give some water. Also, my pediatrician recommended i give an ounce or two of water if baby was getting constipated. It worked for me :)
