Relocation?

If we share joint legal custody, and I have full physical custody...what are my chances to be able to relocate to another state?

  • Does your divorce decree or custody arrangement address that issue? I believe most states put a limit on how far either party can move unless you're all in agreement.

  • I was 17 he was 19, never married. And we havent set these in court yet.. so there's nothing happening or recored in court.

  • If there is nothing in the court then check your state laws to see if you can leave without his permission. The best way I know of doing that is calling a local Domestic violence shelter. I know your situation isn't based on that but they know the state laws for leaving state lines with children

  • You said "If we share" which implies that this is already arranged. Check the laws, but if you've already filed then it will be up to the judge.
