How many of you don't enjoy sitting down and playing with your children?

My DD is 5 and I have never enjoyed just sitting in the floor and playing barbies and tea parties and things. I would much rather read with her or go on walks. I stay home with her but she plays by herself most of the time. Does this make me a bad mom?

  • No, you are not a bad mom. People enjoy different activities. Read, draw, do puzzles etc with her instead. It's fine.

  • i dont always enjoy it but i do try to do something hands on with my girls at least once a day...i'm home with them everyday all day so i think they actually get sick of me butting in to their sister play time!

  • I do not enjoy dolls and tea parties either but I just try and do plenty of other hands on quality time types of activities with them. We go to the park, take walks, color, etc.

  • Nope, don't enjoy it. Probably because I'm not 5 years old. I'm an adult and have no interest in playing kid stuff.
I prefer to spend time with them in other ways. We do puzzles, watch TV, listen to music and just chat. I also liked coloring (when the kids hadn't broken/lost/mixed up all the crayons). I LOVE doing Legos with my son.
Luckily I don't believe it's my job to entertain my kids all day long. I expect them to do their own thing while I do mine.

  • I'm not a player, but I sit outside and watch while he'll play with the neighborhood kids. We do plenty of other things. We color, read, paint, and I generally enjoy the sun while he explores the world. He's getting good on his bike, so it looks like I'll be doing more walking now :-)

  • I have a difference of opinion...why have kids if you cannot be bothered to play with them?
