What part of the plant can I take if I want to plant my own?

My mom has a beautiful garden and she tells me to take what I want she showed me how and where to break it just as long as it has roots but it has been so long I forget.
How do you do it?
Thanks!

  • Generally any combination of leaf AND stem will work. Just soak stem in water for a few weeks to see if roots appear. If not, you'll see it rotting and know that you failed!

  • What type of plants are they? Usually you can go to any garden shop and ask them for a rooting hormone powder. It is expensive, but a little goes a long way. just clip off a stem portion with at least two leaves on it, dip the stem in the hormone powder and stick that in the soil. Give it some water now and again and it will take off and make a clone of its parent plant.

  • Are you transplanting the whole plant or just taking a cutting?
