Is it lame and cliché that I named my all-black kitty Midnight?

I know he doesn't give a rat's tail what his name is. I know he loves me no matter what. I was just thinking about whether I could have been more creative, maybe gone with a name that had nothing to do with his coloring. I love black kitties; I think they get a bad rap because of that superstition surrounding them.

When I was a kid I had Black Flag, a bob-tailed black kitty. I had Miracle who was a dark grey and was so named because my mother found her in the engine of our van. I had Mama Dochee, an old grey tabby who got her name because I was a small child who loved to eat dochee (Cheetos; I hadn't firmly grasped the language yet, lol) and share them with the mama kitty. We've also had an all white kitty, Socrates, who stole her mother's kittens when her own litter was adopted out first (people preferred her long-haired offspring to her mother's short-haired kittens). We had Worf (who, with Black Flag, were the two we kept from that stolen litter), the white and grey-spotted bob-tailed kitty who used up every bit of his nine lives. Mootisse (mother to Socrates, Worf, and Black Flag) who was with us for a long time until she wandered off and never came home.

Midnight is my first pet as an adult. Okay, DH got a dog the year before we got Midnight, but the dog didn't stick around long and I don't particularly count the dogs DH has brought home as being my pets. I'm a cat person, lol. I care for the doggies, but they're DH's doggies.

I know I'm rambling and providing irrelevant information.

  • No, I named my white cat Snowball, my grey cat Smokey, and my black dog Jetta (it means black gemstone), my appaloosa horse that was mostly white Casper. I had named a black stray cat Baghera, ya I named the stray.

  • I think the name is cool. Sometimes the best names are the most obvious ones.
I have a black cat too, her name is Solaris officially...but we call her Boo Boo Kitty... kind of a nod to Jay and Silent Bob. My darling cat Milton died 5 days ago. I'm very upset about it. I don't want another kitty ...there will never be another Milton.

  • It's not particularly creative, but choose a name that you like! I don't care what anyone thinks about the names I choose! Neither should you!

I don't personally name a pet until I get to know them and their personality. So far I have a Page (after Jimmy Page, Led Zeppelin) and yes he's a male, then Kraven (Kraven the Hunter- Comics, not vampire), and Sasha (She's super feisty and has her own little diva personality).

  • We have an all black cat, and since my DS loves her so much and fell immediately in love with her, he got to name her. Of course, he picked Midnight. lol I usually name our animals and pretty much always choose a unique name for them(my last cat was Xerox because he was black and white with random black spots that looked like ink spots lol), and it drove me nuts when he chose that name! lol But now I couldn't imagine her with another name.

  • I'm a firm believer in having a pets name fit the pet. If I had a dog who's personality just screamed "fido", that's what I'd name him. If your cat's a "Midnight" then, by golly, it sounds like a winner to me!
