  • He needs to start by writing a business plan. There is great information here:

  • First, he needs to know about the security industry because there should be preset protocol in place. Second, he should look into what his liability insurnace expense is going to be . . . that is a big one with security.

His guards will need training on CPR, First aid for the Professional, as well as self-defense and professional take-down. That will be out of his pocket.

Business-wise, he needs to file for a permit with the city, get a tax ID number, learn about estimated tax payments, etc.

    Good luck!!

  • Is he qualified? Has he worked as a police officer or have experience in that area? He will have to be licensed and insured to be able to do that, and it will be quite expensive. The liability alone may not be worth it.

Hubby has been a police officer for nearly 30 years and has extensive training in many areas, including SWAT. He has his own corporate security and private investigations business (incorporated through the state) which stemmed from his experiences. Please note that while he generates close to $600,000 in services every year, we could not afford to live off that job alone because the expenses are extremely high and eats up a major chunk of it.

    Best of luck.
