does anyone remember how to calculate the cubic area of an octagon?

i'm trying to design my greenhouse and want to know how many plants i could fit in it.

  • Area of an Octagon: A = S (squared) - B (squared) where S is the overall width of the octagon and B is the length of one side.

  • 1) An octagon is a square with the 4 corners removed
    2) Calculate the area of the square that the original octagon fit in
    3) Increase all sides by 6
    4) Remove the corners from the larger square, subtracting the area for these 4 triangles from the square to get your answer.
