  • For fruit flies, a bowl of apple cider vinegar with a couple of drops of dish soap in it and left out on the counter is good for catching them. To keep them away, store your fruit in the refrigerator or eat it all before it gets too ripe.

For ants, it really depends on what kind you have, but you can try sprinkling borax around outside and dried basil inside. The ants will eat it & die. To eliminate ant scent trails, scrub every surface you've seen them on with white vinegar. If you don't get rid of the scent trails, the ants will keep coming back even if you do kill every ant you see.

  • Sugar ants! Those things suck and are really hard to get rid of.

  • for the fruit flies, put some apple cider vinegar in a coke bottle....they get in, but they can't get out. Do it at night.

For the ants, mix some borax with honey & leave it out so the ants eat it. It will kill them & their whole family. If you put too much borax in it though, they will die real quick & know they've been poisoned. If you put too little, it will not kill them fast enough/ It has to be the right ratio, you can google it online.

  • I've had a lot of success keeping ants out with both borax and cinnamon.

  • Ants you have to get rid of the mound outside and clean up any water leaks you may have. Knats....inside you can wash your veggies in vinegar as soon as you get home from the store. Then treat your drains with baking soda and vinegar...seal it overnight and then pour boiling water down the drain in the morning.

  • The last thing you want to do is seal a drain with baking soda and vinegar inside it. Too much gas is emitted and you can burst the pipes.

  • I had knats and they sucked. I just kept the sink super clean with bleach and used chlorox on it every day. If they sink is clean it will usually clear them up. I also use the little ant bait containers for ants. You can go to a tractor supply store or call a pest control company and ask them if you can buy the little disks from them.
