How to take care of basil?

Last Saturday at the farmers' market the kids all got a free basil plant. Well... how do I keep it alive?! I've been keeping the soil moist but I'm thinking maybe too much because the leaves are drooping.
What does it need from me?

  • They like full sun & water only when the soil gets dry. Put it in a big pot outside & it will grow huge. When little white flowers appear on the tips, pinch back & remove with your fingers & it will promote more leaf growth.

  • Exactly what the 1st poster said. I grow it every spring/summer and have fresh pesto in the summer.

  • The plant may be over-stressed. But you can try planting it and see if it will revive.
