  • Is there a lake around, take them fishing, swimming. Go find rocks, leaves, twigs, go bird watching or count and see how many animals you can see. Lay on a blanket and pick out cloud animals, take paper and crayons and let them color over the leaves (leaves on the bottom of the paper) just let them play...while you and dad watch.... the best thing about camping is that there are some many things that will keep the children's attention and it has nothing to do with mom and dad. Have fun.

  • Swimming if it's warm, canoeing, and fishing. It's always fun to fish with little ones.

  • Scavenger hunt, just taking a hike to see nature, swim, try to build a shelter, find pretty rocks or shells.

  • Scavenger hunt for nature items (but it does take a bit of prep time for Mom and Dad).

  • Take a board game to play, or Uno or some cards to play go fish. Take a magnifying glass (or two!) to look at things up close! Take a walk at night with flashlights. Bring a jar to see if you can catch fireflies. You can tell stories at night around the campfire about when you were a kid, or read a new book to them. If there is biking at the campsite, bring their bicycles. When I take my son camping (he's 8) he will just play with a stick! He likes to play in the dirt too. Let them get dirty! That's half the fun of camping! If you really want to, bring a kit to bead some necklaces or something, in case it rains or you get desperate. Hope you have a great time!
