Does putting lemon juice on hair really lighten it?

my boys are blonde and their hair gets lighter in the summer but I thought it would be fun/cute if i could lighten it and theyre only 20 months so lol I'm obviously not going to bleach or dye it :P

just wondering if anyone has tried it, or has any other tricks?

  • Yes, it does a bit, but it takes a long time, John Freida came up with some spray to make blondes blonder though.

  • My boys are dirty blonde. I've always been tempted to put a little lemon juice in when we are at the beach. I've always been scared to try. What if it looks ridiculous?

  • yes, it works, but, it takes forever and is very gradual.

  • Lemon juice fades the hair color, but not really lighten it. And sun in has peroxide in it, thats why it lightens the hair. Not the lemon juice. Lemon juice is high in acid which just basically cuts through build up and oils and can leave your hair really brittle.

  • I am not sure if I would put citrus juice on a child's skin.

  • Yes, it works but it's somewhat limited and you need a LOT of time in the sun (be leary cuz it can dry hair out also). As far as the spray in stuff, make sure you have good water. We have well water and the chemicals interact with that stuff to turn hair ORANGE, not blonde.

  • Definitely don't use sun in. It used to kill my hair.
