Did you give whole milk to your little one before they turned 1?

My daughter is going to be 1 next week. We're working on transitioning to whole milk, but will continue using formula until she's "officially" one.. I've read that some mom's have already transitioned to whole milk and are no longer using formula/breastmilk..

So did you give whole milk before your baby turned 1? Or did you wait til the 12 month mark? Did you still use formula or just went to milk?

My daughter is still getting used to the taste of the milk, and I want to make sure she's fully ready before giving up formula. She drinks the milk, but not as much as her formula..

Just curious to see what other mom's have done when it comes to moving on to whole milk..

  • I waited with the boys, but they were dairy sensitive. DD was eating cottage cheese and other dairy, so I wasn't too worried. She preferred to nurse though, until about 15 months. and until recently really didn't enjoy milk on its own (and she is 11 now.)

  • All my kids were BFd till 6 months. Then received pumped breast milk in cups till 9 months. Then went on whole milk from that point on. They are now happy healthy adults.

  • I started all of my kids on whole milk at 10 months (the in between mark), but I didnt take them off cereal. My son is 15 months and I still put Gerber rice cereal in his milk. Hes transitioning to a cup and now that he eats table food, he gets a morning, afternoon and bedtime bottle, but I make the bedtime bottle thicker than the others so he doesnt wake up in the middle of the night hungry.

  • Never gave mine whole milk but he did get 2% milk at 8 months old when I ran out of formula and money. No one I know gave their kids whole milk. As long as they are getting other sources of dairy, they don't need whole milk.
