How can I get more referrals from my home business?

I have just started selling Mary Kay and I am loving it, but I am having trouble getting people to book parties or commit to keeping their parties. How can I get more referrals. So I can grow my customers?

  • How about putting flyers on cars at the kids school with your name on them or at church? How about at the local hair & nail salons?

  • Host an open house? When I was selling Beauty Control, back in the day, I had a friend who owned a small town spa. She let me set up at her open house. We did it in the fall and made all sorts of fall treats. I got a ton of referrals that way.

  • I'd be careful putting them on cars at school. Most schools have a no solicitation policy and most likely you WILL get in trouble, especially since it would have your contact info on it. Putting flyers on cars isn't such a great idea. I like the idea about asking if you could leave something at hair salons though. The 2 services mesh nicely and would probably get an overlap of clients.

  • Yeah in most towns you cannot put anything on a car, you can get fined for it. You can make free postcards at and hang them on bulletin boards or yes go door to door (don't leave on or in mailboxes without postage paid). But you can also get other free promotional items from vistaprint. Design a t-shirt that says "I Sell Mary Kay. Ask me for a FREE sample" Get a lawn sign for your yard, business cards, etc.

Order removeable car decals for your car...when I sold Avon I had a pink glitter Avon logo with my name and number, sometimes at red lights people would run out there car and knock on my window for a brochure!

Get the Mary Kay Tote's a black purse with a window for a Mary Kay Catalog, if they don't sell them anymore look on ebay for on.

Pay to be a vender at home shows, bridal shows, vender fairs, festivals, craft shows, job fairs, etc etc. Give away a basket and call every name you get

  • I have never heard that about the cars. Wow...... I have looked at job fairs and googled trade shows for home business that type of thing. And found several hosted events where several come together so show their product and opportunities. Might want to try that. Good Luck

  • Offer an incentive. Ask ppl u know if they know anyone who would like a free facial in exchange for their opinion of the products. If their referrals book they can get a product 1/2 price.
    Be creative with your approach.
I'm a consultant as well. Still building my customer base but switch up my "routine" when I find something stops working.
