What would your parents think...

If you told them you were dating someone of another race? Now, or when you were younger.

I don't really know why this popped into my head, but I'm curious.
My parents have always seemed really open-minded. Granted, my sisters and I have only ever dated people who were white. Some were of different religions... but all were white. I just feel like they'd be pretty open about it.

Anyone else?

  • I have dated 2 Asian guys but that's it...if they were black my parents would freak out, probally disown me. I will not be that way with my children, they can date whoever they want.

  • I don't think that they would mind but my dad would have to rethink his language since the 'N' word comes out a lot in jokes. Not that he means anything bad about it. he mostly says it because it gets under my skin.

  • Now... they would be furious, because Im married.

Then.... My dad wouldnt care, my step mom wouldnt care, my mom initially wouldnt care until she spoke to my blankity blank step dad who would throw a small town bigoted hissy fit. The man needs to pull his mid-west head out of his mid-west ass.

  • I think they probably would have preferred another race than my son's sperm donor..............LOL They were full blooded southerners....they had lots of different race friends.......but I don't think they would have "completely" approved if I was with a black man.

  • I was worried my parents would judge when they met my best friend/roommate, because he's native. My dad grew up with a lot of less-than-appealing native people, but he didn't seem to let that affect his view of my roommate when they met.

  • Well, I'm married to a Caucasian man and I'm Spanish.

  • I think they would be concerned, just because they know there would be some obstacles. But they would be more concerned about us having the same faith/beliefs.
