Skin irritation/rash

The primary care doctor says it looks like eczema, anybody hear ever heard or experienced this. Baby is now 16 mos. old - since a few months old baby constantly scratching in head, when sleepy, when frustrated, etc. Around 12 mos. started getting rash on left eye lid - the lid turns a light red/pink and is slightly swollen. It also is irritated with a slight rash on chin. Baby only scratches, the head and chin - not the eye. Any suggestions? It flares up and goes away. Can not afford a dermatologist visit right now, so any info is very helpful.

  • try making sure its cleaned regularly, babies wipe all kinds of stuff into anything itchy and it gets more irritated. Just a damp, kleenex is fine.

A very, very, very tiny dab of hypo allergenic diaper ointment (unscented if you can find it) on the worst spot and then wipe off any extra with some kleenex, can help. Best done when they are asleep. Keep it away from the eye. Not more than once in the morning and once at night. If it seems to irritate it, wash it off with a damp kleenex.

If it stays more than a week or gets worse see if you can find a free clinic.
