My children have to get up at 5:45/6:00AM to get ready for school. They are 11 and 12 years old. What time would you say for bedtime on school nights and on weekends/holidays?

  • On school nights all my kids have to be in their rooms by 8pm. I want them asleep by 10pm if they are teens, and no later then 9:00-9:30 as tweens. On weekends they can stay up all night lol, but generally they are in bed by around 11.

  • My oldest goes to bed at 8:30pm and is up ~6:30am on school days. Ten hours is average amount of sleep tweens need.

  • It's recommended that a 7-12 year old get 10 to 11 hours of sleep....So just take the time they need to get up and go back 11 hours-10 hours. 7-8 pm would be 10 to 11 hours before 6 am.

My own kids don't have to get up till about 7 am so they go to bed at 9 pm. However if they had to get up at 6 then I would be putting them to bed at 8 pm.

  • I don't know about that age. I am a SAHM to a 1 and 2 year old and they go to bed at 10 pm. People think it's insane but I'm a night owl so why put them to bed early and have them wake me up at the crack of dawn? Once they start school I will have to think of a bed time though. lol

  • 8pm has been the rule in our house on school nights. If they don't they're monsters in the morning. 10pm on Fri, and Sat,if they're watching movies or have a friend over, and holidays etc. During the Summer they're in bed by 9pm Mon-Thurs. 10 on the weekend.
We stick to it because letting them do what they want turns into a mess, this way they know what to expect. Most nights they see the clock and say, it's time for bed Mom, and are go on their own. Kids thrive on routine, and structure IMO.
