Travel with toddler

(a year and a half old)
Any tips? We have to drive almost 1,000 miles. We have a hotel arranged along the way...we're planning to leave when our little one is ready for sleep at night. Take breaks often...anything else?

  • I suggest a DVD player, any favorite dvds, tons of diff. types of snacks, coloring books (we use the Crayola color wonder sets; markers only work on special paper), stickers, books, any specific small toys that they like, and cuddle items (LO uses a blanky and a yo gabba gabba pillow to fall asleep).

We usually get our 22 month old some new toys that we keep hidden until our trip. Our last trip, two weeks ago, was about 6 hrs worth of flying/driving and we got him this little Leapfrog and it entertained him for a good while.

  • When our daughter was two, we bought her a kid tough camera. She uses it on each trip we take and it takes pretty good pictures.

  • We have the kid tough camera, too. But, I just flew tonight from Seattle to Denver, then from there on to Knoxville, TN with a 3 year old and an 8 month old. Something that is awesome for toddlers is the Mobigo. It comes with one game, and you can buy multiple other games for it. It entertains my 3 year for hours. It has a touch screen, but the screen slides up and it has a full keyboard. A coloring book and crayons works wonders, too. You can go to the dollar store and get some small cheap toys. Make sure to keep a variety of snacks and juice boxes or whatever your child drinks. Oh, and a magnadoodle. I do agree with the DVD player. Costco has a set that is $99 and it comes with 2 screens. Even if you don't have a Costco near you, you could probably look it up on line. Good luck with your trip!
