Spin-off to Back To The Future: Would you be alive today if there were NO modern medical treatments?

Between a heart monitor for me as an infant and emergency c-section with my son, I am not really sure if I would be. My husband had part of a collapsed lung removed when he was less than a month old. Then there are infections that can get real bad...

  • Possibly me/my mom would have died during childbirth.
She had an emergency c-section with me because i had a short cord & it was wrapped around my neck. I was down in the birth canal but stuck..
so who knows. maybe. maybe not..

My daughter- spent 1 wk in the hospital at age 2 with a staph infection in her hip bone. I think without medical care she would have died. or at the least lost a leg.

  • Yes, so far I've had no life-threatening illnesses or infections. Not even a bad flu! However my eldest daughter may not be here as she was born too early.

  • No..I was a preemie, I had pnemonia 4 times as a child and had to live in one of those bubbles for a month, my lung collapsed when I was 14 and I had to have an emergency c-section with my oldest daughter

  • No, I would have died soon after birth because of esophageal atresia.

  • Nope. I had a severely infected gallbladder after the birth of my first child 12 years ago. And I had pneumonia last Thanksgiving. Both of those could have been life threatening without modern medical intervention.

  • Probably most of us would not be here. Even something as simple as a Bladder Infection or flu would have killed us. That's why if you lived to 35 back before antibiotics, you were considered very old & lucky.

  • My mom and I would have died during child birth, she (we) have a bleeding disorder that required an emergency c-section and a blood transfusion. If I would have lived thru that, then I probably would have died of pneumonia at 3 when I needed to be put on some kind of vent.

  • I'm not sure I would be. 30 years ago I was born 8 weeks early and spent my first 30 days in an incubator. Fast forward 22 years to when I was in labor with my son and without the emergency C-section neither one of us would have survived. His head was just too big to fit through me. Same with my daughter 3.5 years after him. She was a planned C-section though.
