Derogatory or Not?

I don't want to insult anyone. I just want to know if this is derogatory. I don't think it is, but my dh says it was when I sang it to my dd. I just thought it was a silly song my uncle taught me. It is a version of There's a Place In Franc Where The Aligators Dance. It goes like this
There is a place in France where the aligators dance.
The dance they do was written by a Jew
They didn't like the dance, so they kicked him in the pants
The pants he wore cost $1.94.

If this is derogatory. please tell me why. I really don't see anything wrong with it. I certianly don't want to teach it to my children if it is.

  • we used to sing this:

    there's a place in france
    where the naked ladies dance
    and the men don't care
    'coz they have no underwear.

i can't imagine why we sang that..just silly kids, i guess!

  • I think it is, it's referring to Jews being cheap and I find it offensive.

  • Some people may be offended because of the Jew part and pointing out how much his jeans cost.

  • i can see it being offensive to jewish people, basically it first starts off by talking about kicking a jew in the pants and then about them being cheap.

it's easy to find another rhyme instead to fit the place of jew. like dullscissors suggestion for the song..

heres the history of the song..
