Washing detergent....

I am broke and I need to wash clothes and have no washing powders. Is there anything I could use in place of washing detergent?

  • Technically, you don't even need detergent to get your clothes clean, only water & agitation, so you could just wash them with plain old water & they'll be just as clean, but wouldn't smell like detergent. If you want them to smell nice, you can grate some soap & melt it with hot water to make a substitute. White vinegar can be used as fabric softener & you can add baking soda to your wash load to help absorb odors.

  • If they're not too dirty just wash with regular water and vinegar in the rinse cycle.

  • For a quick solution use about a table spoon of grated bar soap. In the future try this. saves me a ton of money.
