  • Canned yuck! : ) no, make my own. I use ground turkey, onion, gr. pepper, fresh garlic, can of tomatoes, variety of beans, I also add cilantro now it makes it taste so good. I use chili powder, pepper, very little sale & some cumin for spices. It's so easy to make & fast especially if ya crock pot it afterwords. I used to use gr. beef but we don't eat red meat anymore. GL in making it, if ya do!

  • cilantro is good in it. But, I've been preferring it fresh lately. Fresh cilantro is a great topping to chili with sour cream.

  • I won a runner up recipe contest through PACE for this recipe

    1 lb ground beef
    1 packet taco seasoning
    1 jar picante
    2 tablespoons chili powder
3 cans variety beans (black, pinto, kidney)
    1 can Ro*tel
    1 cans tomato paste
    2 cans diced tomatoes
    1 bottle dark beer

Brown ground beef, dump the rest of the stuff in, simmer for 3 or 4 hours.

  • I make my own:

    1 pound ground turkey
    2- 3 tablespoons flour
2 -3 tablespoons red chile powder
    1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
    Pinch or two of oregano

Cook the ground turkey until browned. Add the flour to the meat until it's fully coated and then add the red chile powder until fully coated. Add water to the mixture until the thickness of the chile is to your liking.

Season with garlic salt and oregano.

  • Make your own if you can, the canned stuff reminds me of dog food.

  • I only make it - refuse to buy it. I don't follow a recipe, or measure, and it doesn't always turn out the same, but my basic "recipe" is:
2 lbs ground beef, browned with 1 onions, chopped, and chili powder, & drained and returned to pot
2 cans (the middle size...25 oz or so?) Mrs. Grimes blue-label chili beans (or Hy-Vee lable)
1/2 - 1 46 oz can low-sodium tomato juice or 2 cans tomato paste plus water
    salsa - usually 1 jar
    black pepper & chili powder
Mix it all up and let it simmer for a couple hours or so, or in the crock pot all day or overnight. We eat it with something different all the time - cheese, saltines, corn chips, cinnamon rolls, corn bread...
