Adhd/add

ok couple questions, what is the difference between adhd/add, when can they diagnose either/or and what are some early signs, my DD is 2 1/2 and gets downright mean when angry, screams, never listens never calm.. like always has to be talking
ex- will yell no and go away throw herself down runs away runs to other people pushes other kids, throws things, refuses to listen at all, i love her dearly but man she is tiring! i know shes 2 so has that against her too but idk if it seems perhaps like more than that

  • ADHD is the accepted term used today; it encompasses ADD with or without the hyperactivity component.

  • That's why it's called "terrible 2's!" lol- ok I know it's not funny, but ADD is Attention Deficit Disorder & the H in ADHD is w/ Hyperactivity. She is too young to be medicated & sounds like she's in need of some extreme parenting for each and every time she behaves in this manner. When she yells, tell her you will not get what she wants or respond to her until she talks to you in her polite, inside voice. When she is violent, she gets an age- appropriate & immediate time-out. Watch some Super nanny techniques on dealing w/ this tyhpe of behavior- she's great. The key is to be strong & consistent. GL!

  • Children have their own temperament and it may not match the mother's temperament and that can make life difficult. Rather than diagnosing the child I encourage you to learn some effective parenting skills and stress management for you and your child. Love & Limits by Elizabeth Crary is a great book about parenting toddlers. She has a great web site

My youngest son was difficult and the doctors thought he had ADHD. He was being seen at a children's hospital for a chronic medical condition and they tried to get me to believe he had ADHD.  It turned out he has bipolar disorder. He is now 23.
