Swollen tonsils

For the past three nights, I have heard my 19 month old daughter snoring thru the baby monitor. She has never snored before. She has kept a snotty nose for a week now, no fever at all. Tonight when I had her on the changing table, she was crying and I shined a flash light down her throat and her tonsils are swollen up bad!! They are huge with purple veins. Should I take her to the doctor, even if she isn't running fever? What can they do for her? They never run tests and just assume it's this or that. Always sending us home with the medicine aldex, which does nothing.
