Is being a mentor the same as being a foster parent?

I know a foster parent is able to keep the child in their home, so is the mentor allow to do the same or is it just like a one on one tutor?

  • One-on-one tutor, and you spend time together and take them to do cool stuff. They do not live with you.

  • Back when apprentices lived with their mentors it might have been the same thing, but in our time mentors generally just tutor children and spend time with them. It would be more akin to a guidance counselor or older sibling.

  • Think of the big-brother-big-sister program. That's the typical model for a mentor relationship. They build a relationship and go out and do things together. The kids don't go live with them.
