Religion & drinking

Okay, I don't understand. This evening I volunteered to help out at childs school. They go to a private, church related school.
Anyhow, they also had a fund raiser last night.
At both occasions, there was alchole and / or mixed drinks pressent.
I don't understand, how at church / school functions there are people drinking..
Is it like this everywhere? Or just at this church & school.

  • I don't think it's ok to serve alcohol at ANY church/school related activity regardless of the denomination. What kind of message does that send?

  • Oh, Girl... are you familiar with Catholics? They have the best social events ever! We used to do fish fries and have serve beer.... We had steak dinners and everyone had to bring their own wine.... Those Catholics really know how to throw a dinner, let me tell ya!

  • I don't understand why they'd have booze where children are concerned... that is a bit low for me to think about

But as for religions.... Jews believe it is alright as long as it isn't grain based (more of wine type deal and not others)... and christians recite the Jeus made water to wine

  • My understanding is that drinking is not a sin, drunkeness is. I don't see anything wrong with having a cocktail.

  • According to the Bible, Jesus drank wine. So apparently HE was okay with drinking.

  • We often have wine and beer available when we hos dinners, but I am Catholic and there is no doctrine stating that alcohol is forbidden. My current priest is a beer snob.
