Books or eReader?

I love the feel and smell of a paperback book just as much as the next gal but my mommy bought me a Kindle the other day and I have to admit.....I'm not hating it! is SO freaking conveniant to have access to over 1 million books at the touch of a button and I've noticed ebooks seem to be much cheaper then this doesnt mean I'm going to stop buying books (I love the look of a full bookcase lol) but I can tell you now, my Kindle will definatly be getting a work out LOL

So which do you prefer?

  • Paper books. They're just so original. To me there are just some things you can't replace.

  • KINDLE. Turning pages manually is soooo 2009.

  • I've had my Kindle for about a year now, and although I love the idea of it (it's much more compact than a library of books), there are a few things I don't like about it. First of all, you have to turn off your e-book during take offs and landings. That's a real bummer. Also, I have the one without the back light and it's hard to read in the dark. And lastly, you don't have to worry about charging your paperback books. The other day I was in the waiting room of the Dr's office and thought I'd just read my book while I waited, but the battery was dead. So much for that!

  • I too love books! but....sure is nice not having to lung around two books....(what if I get done reading one and I am still waiting in line!?!? the horror!) I might forget my purse...or the purse is not big enough.....So I do love the convience of the ebooks....I have all of them on my smart phone...SOOOO nice! Most of the time I remember my phone! ;)

  • I've had my Kindle for two years now (1st gen), and I still love it! There are some real books I'll read, esp if I find something really cheap or not available on it yet. I love that it saves on paper and storage, and I can put it in a ziplock to read in the tub without the pages all warping. The built-in dictionary feature is by far my favorite thing of all.

The only thing I do miss is knowing the page numbers or how far I've read.

I might upgrade this year, but not sure yet.

  • I work at an independent bookstore..............

But even if I didn't, I prefer physical books. You can buy books used; you can sell them, trade them, or give them away when you're done with them. And I've always loved the experience of actually going into a bookstore. You never know what you'll find, even on a shelf that you don't usually look at, and it's nice to talk to actual people with real recommendations instead of just relying on the "based on what you've purchased" line on a website.

The convenience factor is nice with e-books, but the only circumstance in which I could ever see that winning out is if I for some reason started traveling a lot. I've got e-reader apps on my phone and iPod Touch with a bunch of free classics in case I'm ever in a bind and need something to read, but in general, I prefer books.
