Choking out my weeds

I asked this befe but I got answers Ididn't need threfor I think I asked wrong.

Revised

I read that if you let your grass get tall, the roots drink up more water than the weeds and therefor it wll choke them out. My question is how short do I cut the grass but still keep it tall enough to choke them?

  • Don't mow shorter than 3 inches. And for a natural herbicide - use vinegar with some dish soap (dish soap helps it soak into the leaves). Put in a spray bottle and selectively spray the weeds.

  • I've never heard of that...

My husband keeps rambling on about getting Scot's (Scott's?) Turf Builder with weed killer. Maybe think about picking that up?

  • Oh and when you do mow - mulch the clippings to the lawn, don't bag it.

  • Kim - it is true - trying to choke out weeds by letting the grass grow higher isn't always the most effective way to get the weeds gone. Good luck.

  • ahh those are much better answers than I got the first time. I kept getting "if you mow over the weeds they will still grow.

  • Just pick up a weed killer. Go to Lowe's and talk to someone in Lawn & Garden.
