Just curious, what does your family eat for meat for xmas dinner??

I have always heard of people eating ham and thats what I grew up eating. When I met my husband 4 years ago he said his mom has always made a turkey. I have never heard of anyone eating turkey on xmas, just curious if Im different for eating ham or if turkey isnt traditional?

  • We always have ham and turkey because there are too many of us for just one or the other and we have some who like one, but not the other.

  • We sometimes do ham, sometimes turkey, sometimes a wonderful pot roast. This year we are doing brisket. We pretty much blow off what everyone else is doing/thnking. We def. have made our own traditions. It was easy when he was still active duty and we often were too far from home to be there for the holidays. The funny thing is now we are least to some degree, the families way of thinking. We do what WE want..not what tradition says we should.

  • Usually we make both!
Traditions are mostly familial to begin with, so I don't think there's any "norm" to strive for here. I know people on the opposite end of the country who have lobster every year for Christmas...and my Grandma Ma always made roast (beef and pork). My mom alternates between standing rib roast and ham.

  • My husbands family did turkey, mine did ham growing up. I make ham on x-mas because it's a month after thanksgiving which is the day both sides make turkey and we go to families on thanksgiving and stay home on x-mas.
