Isn't a family vacation an oxymoron?

Don't get me wrong, I love my kids, but taking care of kids is work. Even when you're supposed to be on vacation. You always have to be on alert in case they need anything or get hurt or whatever and I just can't relax when I'm watching my kids. Someone suggested we take a babysitter with us on vacation, but it's difficult to find someone we can trust. Any suggestions?

  • Book a trip to an all inclusive in the carribbean. They often have nannys and day care activities. is a great place to find these.

  • IDK, I wouldn't want to take a vacation without my family. The duties are no different than everyday parenting

  • My kids are older and we usually have a blast. For us it's just as fun to be away and out of our routines so we don't get bored. And we do silly things like going to Roswell, NM or looking for the world's largest ball of twine. And I'm lucky that my accident waiting to happen child usually does thing at home - right before a vacation, so I can relax about something major happening to him.

  • I like family vacations. If the kids weren't with me I'd be worrying about them.
