What's the "Bible belt"?

  • I live in the Bible belt. Its the section starting around Texas going into the MS valley extending over into SC and NC and other southern states. Its called the bible belt because it is believed most people in this region hold onto strong christian beliefs, more so then others not in the bible belt. They have "old fashioned" values some might say, attend church more often, and are just more fundamental christians then one might see outside the bible belt.

  • it's a region in the southern part of the us that is believed to be heavily religious and rooted in christian/southern baptist beliefs

  • i live right in the middle of it in so. west virginia there is more church per square mile here than any where in the u.s.

  • here in oklahoma they consider themselves the "belt buckle" of the Bible belt. i have never seen so many churches in my life! and im a miltary brat whos been everywhere!! the Bible belt is Texas, OK, & Kansas and everything east & south from those. i wouldnt say they are more religious here...just more noisy about it! its all about other ppl seeing you going to church & hearing you say Christian things. ppl are so conservative here that on election day OK was called for McCain about 10 mins after the polling places closed.
