What's the going price of rent where you live?

Just wondering what it's like in other places -
We're being transferred to west Texas and I just spent the weekend there looking for a house to lease while we build one. - OOOO my Goodness! A 3/2/2 average size house (1500-2000 sq ft) is going for anywhere from $1800 to over $2500 A month.
Apartments are worse - 800 sq ft apartment $1025!
Crap how do people afford these prices?

What does housing cost where you live? Where are you?

  • lol, well glad you're not moving here (md....dc metro area). it is $1600/month for a 2 bedroom apartment. even in the questionable areas it is $1200/month for a 2 bedroom. it is crazy. there aren't even any houses around here you could lease lol

  • About the same unless you know someone who needs someone to stay in their home and will work out an agreement to pay less than the going rate is.

Rooms rent for alot too $600+
Alot of the people in our County who are paying these high prices for apts/house rentals have to go outside the County for work in order to afford to pay to live here, and with the expense of a commute, I wonder if its even worth it to have a higher paying job, all their money goes to living expenses and commuting.
