How do you know if you're allergic to fake jewelry?

Or not even allergic, necessarily; just that your body rejects it.

  • Bananabear - I stopped wearing earrings because the only thing I could tolerate was surgical steel posts and even that caused me issues at times.

My ears would get the same as you've described and I was told by the doctor I was seeing at the time that it was because I was allergic.

  • well i'll turn blue and green , not red though.a trick i learned from my mom is to use clear nailpolish and paint the jewelry, let it dry and voila, no more consequences.

  • Rash where the jewelry is.

  • If my ear lobes get sore, red and warm and develop a lump where the hole is after only wearing the earrings for a few hours.....would that mean I'm allergic? Or could it be because I haven't worn earrings in years? (I don't ever recall having reactions with gold though - no matter how long I went in between wearing jewelry or not.)
