Toddler Death :( Safety reminder -

Hi Moms,

I saw on the news today. :(

A little 20-month babygirl woke up from her nap and started climbing on her dresser. The dresser fell on her, and she passed away.

Poor baby . . . it breaks my heart.

So, this is a reminder to all of us to make sure that our furniture is bolted to the walls.

  • When my dd was close to that age I was folding clothes. She went over to her dresser and started to climb it. It started to tip over but I was quick enough to stop it and grab her. After I set her down the first words out of her mouth were "oh shit". Not even sure what I said. Our situation could have been so much worse. I went out that night and got the stuff to bolt her furniture. I can't even imagine what that family is going through.

  • Our children's chest of drawers have been attached to the wall from the beginning. That is such a terrible thing for anyone to go through!

  • How sad.

Our younger kids don't even have a dresser in their room for this reason. Their clothes are in a closet in the hallway. Thanks for the reminder though, our older son just got a new bookcase and while I don't expect him to have any problems tipping it over, his little brothers might.

  • How horrid... I couldn't imagine loosing a child like that. It happens so easily, my kids have done it twice now. But I think bolting furniture to the wall is a bit much! We can't raise our kids in a bubble or protection...
