How do you steam cook fresh veggies? Green beans, peas, broccoli or corn.

My knowledge of cooking is very limited... =)

  • To steam them you could use a microwave and put just a small amount of water in the covered casserole and steam until done. Or you can buy a little basket for steaming that fits in a pan to steam on the stovetop. You put a little water in the bottom of the pan, then the steaming basket, then set the vegetables on top, cover the pan. Then bring the water to a boil and let them steam until done. Maybe 10 or more minutes. The water should not touch the vegetables, since that would be boiling, not steaming.

  • i found the easiest way is to buy zip lock steam and fresh bags they are awsome. you can buy then at walmart or whatever store you have they are located with the regular zip lock baggies. you just put the veggies in the bag and put them in your microwave for around 8 to 10mins some need more like 15mins depending on what you are steaming.

  • i like to cook them like this - regardless which vegie, cauliflour or broccoli or brustle sprout or carrot etc.
medium pot, place your vegies in it, fill it with water just to the top of the vegies, add salt & pepper & a table spoon of brown sugar, bring to a boil, cover with a lid, and let it sit on med to med/hi temperature until you can stick a fork easily into the vegie, drain and enjoy (takes about 10 to 20 minutes depending on quantity - you can stir occationaly but you dont want to open the lid too many times)
