OTC Medicine for migraines?

what is a good OTC medicine for migraines? My husband woke up this morning with one and I was wondering what is a good one that you can buy OTC? Or would he be able to take one of my prescription pills?

  • I use excedrin or excedrin migraine and it works for me. A friend suggested drinking gatorade--- I don't know if that works or not, but maybe you could try it. Hope your hubby feels better and is headache-free soon!!

  • My coworker gets migraines a lot, and she says caffeine and salt help (she usually gets a Coke and some fries). Something about widening the blood vessels and increasing blood flow. I tried it once, and it seemed to work pretty well and quickly.

Also why Excedrin Migraine works--it has caffeine.

  • Sorry I am no help here. I have tried all of the OTC's for years of migraines with no relief. Many ER visits later I ended up having to see a neurologist for imitrex and daily meds. I suggest your husband speak with a Dr. should he ever have to suffer from one again.

  • I suffer from migraines as well. Excedrin has always been my saving grace!! Whenever I am out, though, I'll put an ice pack on my forehead and another at the back of my head, close to the nape and go to sleep with a pillow and a blanket over my head. When I wake up later on, I usually feel much better.
