  • things like how long they have babysat for how many children they have sat for at one time. Are they CPR certified. I know this sounds stupid but if you are going to have them sit for you during a meal time depending on their age you need to know how well they know a kitchen and if not that they will not cook anything. Also i would ask for references from previous babysitting jobs or at least numbers so you can do your own background check.

  • That's funny you ask, I just finished typing an application for the sitters I will be interviewing! Name, address, references and whatever specifics that pertain to your child.

How will you get to my home (if this applies)
Are they CPR/first aid/emergency situation trained?
Describe an emergency situation and how you responded to it
How do they handle a cranky child?
How do they manage unruly, crying, tempertantrums?
What would there typical day be like with your child?
What type of activities/educational would you offer my child/children?
If they are going to be transporting your child are familiar with car seats and safety?
Do they have drivers license and insurance?
Are they flexible with there hours/time spent at your home?
Why do they want to babysit/work with children?
What do they consider the greatest strength and weaknesses?
What can they offer you and your child?

  • Why they want to babysit your child!!!!!
Are they watching your LO in your home or theirs? Will there be other kids there? What if there is an emergency and they have to leave... where will your child go??? Will they be to a park or swimming pool ever? Sunscreen (do they have or should your supply)? Will you provide the food for your LO, snacks and drinks? Are they flexible? Will they respect you and what you value (discipline, nap time, meals, schedule, etc)? What is their past experience? Do they have references?

  • How frequently they will be paid and make sure to keep track so you can give them a total at the end of the yr for taxes!
