Why are pron stars not considered prostitutes?

Prostitution is money for sex. (male and female) A pron star gets paid to have sex. Doesn't this make them prostitutes. If a 'customer' video tapes the sex they are paying for does this make the prostitute exempt to prostitution laws? Where is the line?

I admit I have no strong feelings in regards to this Q I just thought it was an interesting concept. I just wonder what others options are.

  • Because they both get paid. They aren't having sex for money, they're being filmed for money.

  • Hmm, good question. I'm guessing because acting is involved (in some cases, lack thereof), so it's considered theatrics.

  • Good question. Especially with the amount of "female adult film stars wanted" ads I see on Craigslist.

  • I would say its because its not one person paying for sex its two people being payed to be filmed while they have sex.

  • Sounds like a loophole.

  • I see your point & good question! but then again its actors getting paid to act like any other actor/actress? but they are actually having the sex to sell the film.

  • They are being paid to have sex while being filmed....sounds like the same thing as prostituton. They are "prostituting themselves on film for money",....BOTH men and women.
