DD camping with a friend, 3 hrs away..

today was the kids last day of school. She'd asked me about going camping with a friend for the weekend. I don't really know the family, but my kids attend a small private school, SO I thought, I'm sure, I've talked to the parents before and I'll remember them when I see them.
Anyhow, the friend called me last night and asked if my dd could go. I said yes. BUT then today, when the Mom called and I asked where they were going camping. She told me three hours away and it's on the boarder of Mexico.
I did not let my dd go.. My dd was understanding and did have a fit.
Would you let your child go camping for three days on the Mexico boarder?
The Mom asssured me that they would no cross the boarder, ect..
BUT I just didn't feel right about letting her go.
It would have been fine if it had been an hour away - but not three.
It's to far away and being the boarder bothered me.
Was I okay with this decision? Would you have let your child go?
My dd is 12 yrs old.

  • depends on how much you trust the parents, what kind of camping/camp site it is, how responsible your child is.

im allowing my 16 yr old to go with her friends family TO mexico for a week over the summer.

  • I think your decision was fine. 3 hrs away wouldnt bother me but on the border of Mexico would have been a concern.

  • What is the problem letting her go near Mexico?

  • for me it was a combination of both three hours away and at the boarder.

  • totally would have let her go if I knew the parents well enough. No one ever sneaks IN to Mexico... just out... I think it would have been fine.

  • I'd have to know the parents very well & trust them implicitly to allow it.
