  • I have a fig tree but I didn't plant it, it was here before we moved in. I can't wait for the figs to ripen. I'm going to make fig preserves and fig muffins and I have got to find my fig lazy betty recipe.

  • No-

Fruit trees, especially soft fruit that grows well in my area all ripens at 1 time and makes a mess in the yard- NO one can eat that many peaches, plums and apricots. I also have dogs. Dogs + soft fruit= messy yard.

Berries attract rodents and snakes.....not in my yard, thanks.

  • Blueberry & raspberry bushes aren't hard to grow at all. I don't have fruit trees, DH won't let me where we live now. I can't wait to have some someday though.

  • Yes, we have a pear tree & a "fruit cocktail" tree (peaches, plums, nectarines & apricots on one tree), plus a strawberry patch, a small raspberry patch & I usually grow cantaloupe & watermelon every year.

I wouldn't worry too much about ruining a blueberry bush or raspberry canes. They're both pretty hardy (my stupid dalmation kept trying to eat my blueberry bush at our other house & the plant kept going despite his many attempts to do it in), but if you're worried about it, get a book from the library & read up on their care. Have fun berry picking!

  • we have a couple of mixed fruit trees that are still pretty small. We grow berries and melons as well. Keep them watered and they will do fine.
