Cheap family meals

Do you guys have an kid friendly, cheap meal ideas?
I'm tired of wasting money on food, the kids don't like and won't eat.
I dislike going out to eat and I don't like the processed microwave food.
Its summer and the kids will be home eating & snacking.
Also, if you know of a few snacks...
My kids and I are tired of the same old menu plan we currently have.
Time to try something new..

  • What is your "same old menu plan"? It would help to know some of the stuff you're sick of, because what's every-day food to you may be special-occasion food to some of us, and vice-versa. Just don't want to spout off tons of ideas and have you say "but that's what we eat all the time", kwim? ;)

  • We have a rule that one meal is made for everyone. If the kids like it...woohooo! If they don't, they try to stomach as much as they can because there is nothing else coming. We now have 2 daughters that eat anything from lobster to stew to asparagus. Good luck.

  • Peanut butter sandwiches. Actually most kind of sndwiches. Mac and cheese, spagetti, chicken fingers (buy the bulk bags and bake) fish sticks, veggie sticks, apple sticks, bake all of those and have guess the stick dinner. Make a pizza from scratch, it's cheaper and easier than you think.

  • Also, my kids fav is mohoggin. Boil macoroni then fry up a pound of hamburger. Drain grease and toss a tbsp of butter and drained noodles in skillet withh meat, add a dash of celery salt and black pepper. I don't know why but they love it.

Toasting tortillas with cheese and diced veggies is a quick snack here.
Home made pancakes is good too.
