Getting toddler use to glasses

On Friday my son will get his new glasses but just from the one fitting I see he will take them off. Any advice on how to keep them on him since he is not use to them. He is 2 years old :)

  • just keep putting them back on and say "No" when he takes them off. It's a pain, but they will get used to it. My son started wearing glasses at 11 months and this is what I did.

  • My middle daughter got glasses at 18 months. We rarely had issues with her keeping them on. Even her doctor was shocked. We didn't need any straps or gadgets. She just kept them on. But there was about a 3 week period around the time she turned 2 that she refused to put them on so we played the "strange girl" game. Any time she didn't have her glasses on I'd go looking all over the house for Brenna and ask her who this "strange girl" was in my house wearing her clothes. I'd really get into it, calling her name even as she followed me around. I'd tell her she couldn't possibly be my Brenna because my Brenna wore glasses so she must be a "strange girl". She'd laugh and go get her glasses and we never had issues after that. She'd only take them off if she wanted to play the strange girl game. She's 8 1/2 now and I still call her strange girl when she doesn't have them on. She just laughs and rolls her eyes.

  • Just through repetition we got my little one to keep them on. She would take them off and we would put them right back on her. It seemed to work pretty well.

  • My dd got her first pair at one yeast, she kept hers on because she could see with them on. I never had a problem, her eye sight is so bad. A co-workers dd never takes her glasses off - she showers, swims and sleeps with them on. She can literely not see without them on.
On a side note - when I got my first pair, I barried them outside in a sand pile. Wouldn't tell my parents where I put them. Now, I don't see how I could have gone without as a kid watching tv, riding bikes. Etc.

Hoping your little one will do good with his first pair of glasses...

  • Yeah we only tried on like 3 pair and had to get going so I don't really know how he will be with them. I'm hoping when he notices the difference in sight he will keep them on. I know sunglasses are hard to keep on him. he wants to take them off and give them back to me to put back on????? lol
