If medical covers my birth...

will i be able to choose where I want to deliver... and can I choose what type of birth I have... I really want a midwife and a water birth... has anyone had or have heard of being able to have such freedom when choosing birthing options on medical??

  • Yes!
I was on state medicaid for my non-hospital (non-nurse) midwife-attended waterbirths.

  • Some of them do. Call your insurance and ask them or look over your plan paperwork and it should be in there. If they deny you the birth you want, request a copy of their policy (they are required to give you one free of charge) and READ IT that way you will know for sure :)

  • I encourage you to call the MIDWIVES first because they tend to know more about what THEY can do and the special ways to bill.

If you call the insurance they are less likely to *see* a different mode or strategy.

  • Depends on your plan. Some plans are extremely flexible, others are not.
