# IS KINDERGARDEN TO EARLY TO START MATH?

Asked by Delilahzmummy at 1:39 AM on Jun. 2, 2011 in School-Age Kids (5-8)

Level 3 (25 Credits)
• math is a subject that can be taught pretty early. Just be creative and hide learning in activities.

• We started before that - his daycare/preschool had him working on it at 2.

• We started doing math in Kindergarten, really simple stuff but enough where he could get the hang of it. He's going into second grade in the fall now and Math is his favorite subject!

• Hasn't he even seen basic counting skills? That's pretty much covered on Sesame Street.

Answer by NotPanicking at 1:56 AM on Jun. 2, 2011

• U KNOW WAT HE IS MORE INTO VIDEO GAMES THAN ANYTHING ACADEMIC.... PLUS HE IS MY STEPSON SO HE IS NOT WITH US FULL TIME. IT ALL COMES DOWN TO HIS LAZY MOTHER THTS ALL.

• no...not at all... my daughter is learning in preschool. you can make learning math fun by using objects to count, add, subtract.

Answer by Kainalu55 at 2:11 AM on Jun. 2, 2011

• Not a bit. My 5 year old has been adding in his head for 2 years, learned to multiply small numbers over the last weekend, and has general knowledge of fractions.

Answer by MedicMommy at 6:56 AM on Jun. 2, 2011

• That's too late! Math starts by learning to count, recognizing groups of numbers, etc . . . It's still math, just with small numbers and easy concepts.
