How are tornadoes funny?

My younger sister in law moved to Kentucky recently and so she finds it HILARIOUS that 10 tornadoes hit Mass yesterday. I grew up right where they were directly hit by both tornadoes and softball sized hail. People are dead. Homes and buildings are decimated. I'm not laughing.

Do you know anyone who laughs at things like this?

EDIT - She found it laughable enough to use this emoticon XD in her post about it.

  • yeah, some people use their own vernacular. still pretty sick though, even if she meant "weird" or something. people are freaking out because its a horrible, terrifying, life-ending experience that happens in the blink of an eye. people are missing, dead, their homes destroyed. maybe she doesn't have the capacity to grieve for others? maybe she's a bit of a sociopath. more probably, i think that she and most everyone today is seriously desensitized to horrible things. real life feels like a movie to a lot of people.

  • I know people who handle grief and shock differently. It is psychologically proven some people handle things like this poorly because if they can laugh about it then it makes them feel better then facing the reality of devastation and loss of life.

  • Yes, I do understand handling grief differently, I have a degree in psych. However she came on line and posted about how funny it it that people are 'freaking out' over the tornadoes. That's a lack of empathy, imo.

  • then you obviously have not been using your degree in psychology, I actually do have a degree and use it. Lack of empathy can be a way someone deals with grief.

  • @ americansugar80 - I did ask her and she ignored me.

@ anon - then you are obviously not very good at your job to make assumptions and excuses for someone who you have no case history on nor have you ever met.

  • @ anon also if you're being truthful, you wouldn't hide who you are.
