How old should a child be to have a cell phone?

my 11 yr old grandaughter is very responsible and mature for her age. I have sen some of her friends cting stupid with theior phones, I don't think she will. I say yes, her papaw says no

  • DH and I have decided 16 (or whenever they start driving). Should they need one before then they can borrow one of ours.

  • I say it depends on the child. My brother and sister got one when they started going to places without an adult, such as shopping, on a walk to the park etc. I think they were 12 or 13. I got my first one at 17 ;)

  • 15/16. There is NO reason a kid needs a cellphone. PERIOD.

  • My daughter has one she is 11 too,she cant make calls but textes all the time,if she needs to call her girlfriend i let her use mine.she got hers when she was 10 .my boys had theres after my brothers got a new one so realy they never have had a new one ,just hand me downs fones works just as good and all i have to do is add min.
