What should we do about jobs?

While Republican have given ideas on job creating, for the past 2 1/2 yrs(and longer)there was no way of getting any of them passed. Even now passing them in the House doesn't do any good without Senate passage.
Obama has a used a mix of cuts and spending (though much more wasteful spending) and nothing has worked. This leaves me to believe it isn't so much what we are doing as who is doing it. If we get rid of Obama and implement smart job creating ideas, things will begin to turn around.
Obama's jobs bills-
Obama has signed two major pieces of job creation legislation: the $830 billion stimulus plan in 2009 and a tax reduction bill he signed last December that he touted as a spur to job creation.
Last December’s tax cut bill included a one-year lowering of the Social Security payroll tax, as well as an extension of the current income tax rates until the end of 2012. The total amount of tax cuts in 2011 will be $374 billion, according to the Joint Committee on Taxation.
As Obama signed the bill into law he said it “will protect the middle class, will grow our economy, and will create jobs for the American people.” “I think we are past the crisis point in the economy, but we now have to pivot and focus on jobs and growth,” he said.
Six months later, employment is higher, but there are still 2.3 million fewer people employed than when Obama took office in January 2009.

  • Tariffs. A protectionism, if you will. Tax advantages for those COs that remain in America and hire American workers and heavy fines for those that conversely act. People have to stop shopping at the discount houses and buying cheap foreign made crap. I realize this is hard to do when you have limited funds, but shopping at places like WM will keep the poor forever in poverty. Monopolies have no place in America-

  • About 85% of hiring is done by small business under 500 employees. They are not hiring because of the uncertainty of what a new hire will cost because of Obama's policy of more regulation and mandates. If hiring means that an employee will cost X amount and that increase means what they sell will result in X reduction in profit, the business will only hire if it pencils out. Most businesses operate on a 3 to 5% margin of profit and the risk of uncertainty in the cost in hiring is not something that most businesses can afford to take and still remain in business. You will see much more temporary hiring in the future and far less full-time.

  • Eilish is right...govt can't create jobs..not real ones. They can CREATE a business friendly environment where companies feel secure with the future of the govt. They can create an business environment that isn't weighted down by regulations, taxes and fees.

This administration has done nothing that is really needed. They could make a huge difference just by doing 1 thing...requiring all govt contracts be given to US companies using US citizens as their employees...the only exception should be in the war zones where that is not always possible. Hundreds of billions of dollars goes overseas every year through these contracts..this money should be in the US.

Low demand for goods and services. Businesses hire when they need help, not when they feel tax rates are stable.
