Great, another set of parents who give children with autism a bad name. Tell them I said 'Thanks'. Also, tell them that while autism may the the reason their child behaves in certain ways, in no way should it be an excuse for the behavior. A friend of mine became a foster parent to a 16 year old boy with autism who was NOT toliet trained and within a year, she had him using the toliet. It's all about setting the bar high.

  • Was the child already potty trained? While some autistics are never really toliet trained, it would not cause one who has been toliet trained to suddenly regress.

  • its not my kid but one close to our family. he was trained and just regressed. parents are saying its part of his autism but im just curious. they've denied his condition for so long because they didn't want to face the issue and now that hes been diagnoised they blame every little thing he does on autism. just like to offer some advice to them if it helps.

  • Thank you layh.... i'd love to tell them that! They use autism as an excuse for everything including expecting certain exceptions and favors from us to "give him something to look forward to". long story....
