Does Lidocaine help with IV pain?

I am getting induced on Wed, nervous about my IV. Do you think Lidocaine numbs it enough to not feel the IV insertion? Just wondering if it's worth getting poked twice?

  • There are lidocaine patches that do not require an additional injection for peripheral IV insertion. In terms of an epidural, you will need an additional injection. Neither procedure is really all that painful.

  • You won't notice the pain, it's really not that bad.
