There is no such thing as a well-mannered puppy. A puppy is a baby, they must be taught what is acceptable and what is not. Perhaps you're thinking more in terms of a more laid-back breed, one that does not tend to be overly active or hyper. You'll also want to consider whether or not you want a dog that is more of an indoor vs outdoor type, one that will be quite large when full-gorwn or remain small. Lots of things to consider. It'd be a good idea to read up on the different breeds, decide which ones you're most interested in, then talk to those that own them, breeders or even vets to get an idea of how the puppy would fit into your families lifestyle.
